When & Where
This 3rd edition of I run Iran named: 'Persian Gulf Marathon' will take place on Kish island (Iran) on Friday morning 1th of March 2019. Kish is a 45 minutes flight from Dubai across the Persian Gulf. The Kish event program will start on Wednesday 27th of February with the arrival of the first runners and supporters. This way you get used to local weather conditions, relax in preparation for your marathon and discover Kish island and its treasures!
Route & Distances
This I run Iran on Kish island has 3 distances: 42K full marathon, 21K half marathon and 10K quarter marathon. The 42K distance is a unique around the island run along the Persian Gulf coastline. Altitude is sea level and the route is flat on a paved road/bicycle track. Check the Kish map for more info.
Female runners are more than welcome to participate in all distances! This might be a small step for the international runnersworld but it is a big step forward in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a country where street running is not (yet) common practice many Iranians have to get used to this 'way of life'. And be inspired to adopt a new healthy life style by outdoor jogging and running. You can play an important part in promoting (female) street running.
Please take into consideration that local regulations apply to respect islamic rules. This means that women will start separately from men and a modest hijab dress code is mandatory. To get an idea have a look at below female runners at previous editions of I run Iran. Despite these restrictions the Persian Gulf Marathon is an excellent opportunity for female runners to show their strength and determination!
Medal and Prices
Exclusive I run Iran medals are awarded to finishers of the 42K, 21K and 10K distances. A symbol and reminder of your participation at this once in a life time Persian Gulf Marathon. Prices will be awarded to first, second and third places for male and female winners of all three distances.
To make sure you do not dehydrate water station volunteers will support you during your run. Water stations will be present along the 42K marathon route. But also the 21K and 10K distances have water stations. We will also try to supply you with dates and bananas for an energy boost during your Persian Gulf Run.
Depending on the number of participating runners on each distance a timing system will be set up. Either by manual stopwatch, photo finish and/or by electronic measurement via chip. Having said this it is always good to use your own timing as a backup.
Nothing as hard to predict as the weather. But on average Kish island has a warm, humid climate with a nice sea breeze. The beginning of March day temperature is around 25 degrees with occasionally some clouds. To minimize the risk of a heat stroke Persian Gulf Marathon will start early in the morning around sunrise. We strongly recommend you to take local weather conditions into account; use sun cream and headwear like a buff, bandana, head scarf or cap in light material with sun reflecting colors.
